The movie is out, any thoughts? About the movie, comics, other appearances, etc? Saw the movie recently, thought it was decent although I saw it only to spite Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel. It had a few hiccups, but what it attempted to do, it did well. It was fun and lighthearted at the very least, which is appreciated over Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, or Wonder Woman.
I'm not too knowledgeable on the character or series itself, so I can't tell if the movie did any justice. But that's what this thread is for, let's have some general discussion on the character, series, and perhaps everything around it.
>showing your new from the very beginning
Go back to 4um faggot.
Just not with Captain Marvel because I've never been that big of a fan of capeshit and I couldn't be assed to do research or read before watching the movie. I realize the thread is shit, but that's why I'm hoping it will spark discussion. This board is already slow enough or as slow as it's been even when I try to post in topics I have knowledge in. Figured it'd be worth a shot to state my curiosity or interest.
>I realize the thread is shit
Delete and start again.
Without even seeing the movie but all the trailers, I can tell you they get two big elements wrong. Not for innacuracies as a whole but because they're pulled from shit sources. They made Dr. Sivana just some bald guy and the wizard into an abbo because that's how they are in the New 52 run. Even the Shazam costume is based on the New 52 version. New 52 lives in infamy as the worst half assed reboot DC ever put out. They need to stop pushing all the old elements from it in their animated movies. Definitely shouldn't put them in the live action movies.
It's the best I can do considering my limited knowledge, if there's a better way to spark discussion on this topic be my guest. Seemed to be general consensus that /co/ was uninterested in the film or against it. But, I've always been recommended or told Captain Marvel was "decent capeshit." So I have some interest, but I was hoping to gather some more opinions.
Heh. In the post-credit trailers, there was Mister Mind. Rocket Racoon has competition..
>considering my limited knowledge
Christ you're new.
>Seemed to be general consensus that /co/ was uninterested in the film or against it.
Lurk more before you have the audacity to post next time and click on that arrow thing on the top left of a post and press delete post.
You have picked the saddest thing to get interested in.
Captain Marvel was the best and most successful comic character of the Golden Age. Every issue Captain Marvel Adventures sold over a million copies. In 1944, it sold over 14 million issues. It handily outsold Superman, which is why DC sued Captain Marvel's publisher, Fawcett comics, out of existence. Fawcett stopped publication of all Captain Marvel titles in 1953, and sold the rights to the character to DC in 1972.
Everything Captain Marvel related published by DC is awful and doesn't capture what made Captain Marvel great in the first place. The Fawcett Captain Marvel comics remain, arguably, the best superhero comics ever written, which makes his current status as DC's shambling zombie slave rage inducing.
Fortunately, all of Captain Marvel's Golden Age stories are in the public domain, and there are high-quality scans available. The Digital Comic Museum has all them available for free (I'm story-timing Captain Marvel's origin story from Whiz Comics #2).
The end of Captain Marvel's origin. DC's excised most of this from continuity, which goes to show how little they care about the character.
>admitting lack of knowledge is somehow being new to the board or site
I'm sorry I can't be an elitist like yourself or don't have the time nor interest to have encyclopedic knowledge of capeshit. And last time I checked, it wasn't a requirement to be knowledgeable about the topic the thread is supposed to be about, that's why they're made, so we can wonder and talk about it. That would make sense as to why the board is so slow now, no one wants to talk about anything because they already know everything I guess. Personally I prefer older cartoons, this board isn't all just comics as far as I'm concerned, even then my interest lies in the horror or paranormal themed ones.
And thanks for reminding me why I don't care to visit this board all that much anymore. And you think new people actually want to fucking come here.
I've been here since a year after first exodus, I remember when /co/ used to be in the top 5 boards. Yet you sort of faggots only started to appear a couple years ago when 8chan numbers started downhill fast and accused seemingly anyone or new interests for being the "halfchan boogeyman." If it was someone using reddit terminology and mannerisms, I'd agree with you.
Thank you, anon. I greatly appreciate this. The mythological or supernatural aspects behind it is part of why Captain Marvel seems more interesting to me than usual capeshit, more like a legend rather than some good guy, some bad guy. Although reading this, it does seem kind of cheesy, a product of it's time. Not necessarily bad, but oversimplified, but that might be due to the comic format. How much more influential is this comic supposed to be? At the very least, it made me interested in reading more, but all capeshit seems the same to me or very formulaic to each other.
>How much more influential is this comic supposed to be?
Captain Marvel? So influential that DC snapped up Captain Marvel's writer, Otto Binder, to work the same magic on Superman. Which gave us nearly everything we associate with Superman: Super-Girl, The Phantom Zone, The Bottled City of Kandor, Jimmy Olsen's signal watch, The Legion of Super-Heroes, Red Kryptonite, Krypto the Super-Dog, Brainiac, Bizarro, Lucy Lane, Professor Potter, and so much more.
Basically, Superman as we know him would not exist if Captain Marvel didn't exist.
You want to know my biggest complaint about them turning Shazam into an abobo? It's that they didn't make Captain Marvel an abobo as well.
See, when C.C.Beck drew the wizard Shazam, he wanted the reader to immediately trust him and know that he was good. To that end, he made Shazam look like an old version of Captain Marvel. You can see it in the eyes and ears.
When they made Shazam an abobo and didn't have Captain Marvel also be an abobo, that aspect was lost.
>Definitely shouldn't put them in the live action movies
But that's why they did it in the first place. They wanted better brand synergy with their shitty comics, TV shows and movies
It’s flopping hard
I can see why, advertisements are shit and it's riddled with cheesiness. That and DC doesn't have the reputation Marvel does and your average person doesn't know much about Shazam / Captain Marvel.
That's the problem. New 52 is dogshit and universally hated. While at the same time was over long before they started intergrating it harder into their animations and movies. Plus if they wanted their movies to succeed then they'd use elements that were actually successful than not.
If only the rest of them would.
What do you think of the 80's run on Captain Marvel? Did that do the character justice?
I really liked the movie, too, much better than most capeshit gangwank that my peers praise so much, despite me not really being into capeshit at all. I also liked how it really feels like actual kids from the CURRENT YEAR + X, like of course the first thing they'd think of doing with supernatural powers is to test them out and e-beg for money and attention, of course they'd be completely awkward about every interaction and of course they'd show off as much as possible, justice be damned.
Though I've heard that the movie is like miles and miles away from quality from their sources, but I'd really like to know you guys' opinion on the matter, having liked the tone of the movie should I bother with one of the iterations of the comic or is it just too different?
>Did that do the character justice?
No. They got rid of Captain Marvel as a character and just made Billy Batson Captain Marvel. It's like getting rid of the genie and just making Aladdin the genie.
DC can't be trusted to do anything good with the character.
>being this much of a newfag.
>It's the best I can do considering my limited knowledge
There's always killing yourself.
You know Captain Marvel was based visually on Fred MacMurray, better known for Flubber, My Three Sons, and the Shaggy Dog Story?
I always read abo wizard's dialogue in the aboriginal accent, which I find adds some consoling humour.

The new Shazam can't be worse than this.
>being this much of a newfag
I think this board would suit you better.
Fuck you, you retarded cunt.
>TTGO episode airing time around Shazam release on theaters is about Shazam
His face does looked like Capt Marvel
>raven avatarfag shilling again
Oh boy look, its the /caco/ faggot ban evading again.
>Saw the movie recently, thought it was decent although I saw it only to spite Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel.

anon if you wanted to blog about your experiences you should've went to blogspot or tumblr, showing off how new you are isn't the best of ideas. you should've listened to the earlier anons about deleting the thread and starting over because its kinda obvious youre necro-bumping.
>(The Real Captain Marvel)
uhh, no sweetie.
> I realize the thread is shit, but that's why I'm hoping it will spark discussion.
Its called lurking more faggot.
reported for reporting
Can someone just talk about the movie?! I get it OP is a faggot. I just want to know whether this is worth watching or not.
It was pretty fun to me, slightly moreso than Aquaman honestly Sivana was a bit week but considering how the enjoyable the film's general execution was I didn't mind so much. It was fun kinda seeing how someone used their powers in their general daily life. Honestly the best/worst thing I can say about it is how much it felt like an early-mid 00's Super movie.
Spot on. There were some weird bits, like the utter lack of Wisdom of Solomon and the rushed ending, but it was really solid overall.
You call the OP a fag and then discuss regardless. Board quality is determined by the users themselves, which is why /co/ is pretty fucking low on the list.
>hurr sage is downvote
And the faggot.
> I realize the thread is shit
Then lurk moar before making an ass out of yourself faggot.
Sivana should be more scientific
One annoying thing about this movie is that they basically made the villain Black Adam but called him Sivana and it's the most inexplicable shit.
>basically made the villain Black Adam but called him Sivana and it's the most inexplicable shit.
>Black Adam but called him Sivana
>ignores the exact scene where they mention and quasi-show Black Adam and the fact he has his own movie coming soon staring the Rock
And you wonder why people are shitting on your crappy thread OP.
I'd say it's more like they crossed Sivana with, Ibac? Was that his name?
>Was that his name?
Was the character called Ibac anon? It's been awhile since I read Golden Age Captain Marvel.
its called google son, use it
>It's been awhile since I read Golden Age Captain Marvel.
>I'd say it's more like they crossed Sivana with, Ibac? Was that his name?
>Was the character called Ibac anon? It's been awhile since I read Golden Age Captain Marvel.
<im so totally not replying to myself
>spending money and not pirating
>needing others to make your decisions
Wow faggots! I'm pretty sure it was Ibac though, so it's Sivana crossed with Ibac i'd say.
So you guys got more, or you just gonna shit post some more? Since I don't think you know a danm about comics aside from the current crop from Marvel that you must read monthly.
> I'm pretty sure it was Ibac though
>know a danm about comics aside
Yep he's a newfag alright.
>I'm pretty sure it was Ibac though

So with the apparent commercial/critical success of (((Shazam!))), who else thinks WB is likely to put shitting out a Plastic Man movie on their schedule in the near future?
I hope if they do that, they at least have the decency to do it animated instead of live action.
Go back to your containment board.
Doubtful. Shazam was needed to make up for Superman not being the fun hopeful take on the all powerful caped hero. There's no reason to bring in Plastic Man until someone like Reed Richards crops up in the Marvel movies. Because then they wanna cash in.
Hey look, its that crazy wannabe /pol/ack poster again. I thought Yannie banned his ass when he made one too many political shitposts across the board.
I don't even understand, Bill Parker and C.C. Beck aren't Jewish.
>Bill Parker and C.C. Beck aren't Jewish.
Oh look he's ban evading again.
