 No.210665

A vast new display to mark the end of the First World War will give families of soldiers killed at the Battle of the Somme with no known grave the chance to take home the ‘bodies’ of their loved ones.

As part of the events marking the centenary of the end the conflict, a field in the Queen Elizabeth Park in east London has been transformed with the installation of 72,396 shrouded calico figures to represent the men of the British and Commonwealth forces who were killed during the Battle of the Somme in 1916, but whose bodies were never recovered.
