Brutal Doom isn't as good as vanilla doom, and it's more style over substance, but boy even though it's just kinda flashy gore and explosions I still have fun with it. Watching that video made me happy because I adore Doom but it's been too long since I booted it up and played it; even modded like that the game is just too fun to want to put down for too long.

Only good 72-pin replacement known to exist.

Always works, high-quality, and even multi-regions the console without damage (no need to clip pins).

The Arcade game, is there really any contesting that?

Almost all of the games were terrible, the Nes ones were all awful in their own way with Krusty's Funhouse atleast being unusual, the Gameboy versions were unplayable, the SNES games were bland at best and Simpsons Wrestling was an unbelievably boring button masher.

Yeah, I agree with this. It is one of their weaker arcade beat em ups. But still an alright game.

I kinda liked Krusty's Fun House on the SNES. But Krusty's Fun House was just a Commodore Amiga game with the Simpson's license slapped onto it.

MAME is just bullshit project that keeps needing more and more botnet computer to run 80's game that ran fine on an 8-bit Z80 processor. MESS is also just as bad. They're just fucking insane people running those projects. They don't care how well games play on average person's computer, just how "accurate" it is on their $5000 botnet gaming rigs.

Anyway, I played the arcade Ghouls 'n Ghosts in 1989-90, but shortly after bought the Sega Genesis and that game for it, so I could finish it without spending $100 in quarters. The game plays just fine on that console. In fact, Sega has really fantastic arcade ports for the most part. Even the PC Engine had amazing arcade conversions. And emualator for the 16-bit systems run fine on any old potato toaster, unlike the MAME disaster.

>>6645 here

I stuck with Daggerfall and it's starting to grow on me. It's still very like Arena, but it's a true sequel where they took what worked for the game–expanded world, rich lore, sprawling dungeons–and expanded on it and added features to it. I'm digging it. I think the only added feature I don't like is the new map system, but I see what they were trying to achieve with it and can appreciate that.

The leveling system took a bit to get used to but now I prefer it. I like using skills to level them up which contributes to leveling your character. It makes sense and it's honestly kind of fun.

Yet despite Daggerfall's merits, I probably wouldn't come back to it because I despise games that force you to save constantly due to bullshit. I don't even mean the high difficulty of the enemies (which, as in Arena, get easier the more you progress), but shit like clipping through the floor due to swimming or climbing and dying from the resulting fall damage or failing a fetch quest and suffering from reputation loss because the NPC isn't where the game tells you they are. It's a constant thing and it sucks.

If anyone is considering trying the game for themselves, I can't stress this enough: Get water breathing/water walking spells and levitation. They are absolutely necessary to get through some of the dungeons and will save you a lot of grief.

This thread is for discussing all things MAME and arcade allowed under the board rules. Also so I can share the romset I've been working on.

I made a thread earlier this month on /v/ to share this, but it died due to /v/'s speed, so I'm going to put it here instead. All but 47 games involved in this are /vr/ anyways, and I won't post those. Long story short, I've been working to create a "starter" mame set for people. A rom set that doesn't have 18 clones and knockoffs of space invaders, or mahjong, pachinko, poker, pinball, gambling, or otherwise not worth playing games. And a merged rom set, so all variants of a game are all inside the same .zip, so you don't have 23 different files for the different versions of Street Fighter 2. Merged means the BIOS files are also included inside of the game .zip's, so you don't need to have a bunch of BIOS .zip's in your roms directory. The rom set is also sorted by eras and genres, with the exception of games made in 1985 and prior. This is because I care very little about most games from that era, and sorting 500 games is a pain in the ass. This rom set does NOT include games that require a .CHD to work, since that would take my shitty collection forever to upload. Seriously, some .CHD files are 15GBs. The 2001-current part was about 2GBs, and that took hours to upload.

So, to use these roms, all you need is the compatible version of MAME, which is 0.170. These roms may or may not work on newer or older versions, but I have tested them and they do work fine under 0.170. Download, unzip, and drop all the files into MAME's rom directory. No need for BIOS files.

Keep in mind many games expect you to have a joystick, trackball, wheel, or other specific controls. A large number of racing games act funny if you don't have the hardware it's expecting. A decent amount of sports games react the same way. It's possible to map a lot of that to a controller with analog sticks, but not all games will control 100% properly unless you have the right sort of controller for them. Best of luck to keyboard users.

And one last little bonus for now. This is a modified version of MAME 0.204 64 bit for Windows, made to recognize Sega Sonic Bros, with the ROM already in the roms folder. Also in the Sega Sonic Bros ROM zip is the segac2.cpp file needed to compile your own copy of MAME that will recognize Sega Sonic Bros. For those that don't know, the MAMEdev team won't touch the game since they consider the ROM to be "hot". It should have been in 0.204, but got taken out, and even the commit that added it to the git was removed from the history. So if you want to play Sega Sonic Bros, this is pretty much the only way.

Ok, so ShouTime had a copy. Somehow, Guru got his hands on it. He releases it to the public, and adds it into MAME sometime after 0.203 releases. Suddenly the MAMEdev team claims to have gotten a C&D letter from SEGA. The letter says that they do not authorize anyone to have the fucking ROM, and if MAMEdev lets it be recognized by their software and thus playable, they will take MAMEdev to court to get ALL SEGA games removed from MAME. Guru swears it's just ShouTime and other hoarders playing BS games to keep the game super rare 'n valuable. MAMEdev team says "fuck this trouble" and pulls the commit and wipes it, and states they will not add Sega Sonic Bros to the MAME database. One of the MAMEdevs claims they will eventually add it "when things quiet down", but no idea of when that will be. They also say SEGA is sending out DMCA orders around the internet to get download links taken down, but so far only Guru's website is down and it's not for certain if that was a result of a takedown.

TL;DR version: MAMEdev team says SEGA is threatening to sue to have every single SEGA game removed from MAME if they so much as let MAME run Sega Sonic Bros. Could be BS, but MAMEdev team seems to believe it, and they don wan no trouble.

It's been years since I've played Corom, but here's a little of what I remember;

-Don't waste your money on Link and Plate Armor, just save up to buy the Magic Armor as soon as possible.

-Same with the Long and Broad Sword, you'll find the Magic Sword pretty early in the game.

-Since the only thing you really need to buy is the Magic Armor, once you have it you can spend any other gold you find on Salves and Blast and Hammer spells.

-This is the one I'm least sure of, but I think there is no maximum Strength, so rather than waiting until your Strength gets low, just use all Heal spells as soon as you get them.

 No.7520

Because there's so damn many of them. The way the game calculates random encounters is super shitty and primitive. You can literally take one step and end up in a battle, win, take another step and immediately end up in another battle.

To put it into reference, the first final fantasy game has a ~25 step minimum before the next encounter. Mother has none

It doesn't help that you have very limited combat abilities for the first few hours of the game, especially before Magicant. Ninten has no offensive PSI, making most battles before you get Lloyd unnecessarily frustrating and/or long

It's because the game is designed that way. Very intentionally, it's an uphill battle against all odds. Seriously, have you even played the game?

Mother 3 is pretty fucking good at hammering that point home. Some people die, but it is for the "good of all" bullshit, but it is supposed to be unfair and hard. You personally grinding for levels or gear does not matter. Play the game as it is. Maybe the grind was supposed to be horrible part of the story?

I disagree. I think that games should be fun even if they're an uphill struggle. Honestly Mother 1 and 2 were much might lighthearted and heartfelt experiences. I didn't have a problem with the encounter rate in Mother 1; hell it's one of the several games I consider to be a masterpiece. It's definitely not to just make the game seem like a struggle because I doubt that was the intention for Mother 1 at all; it's just the game being an NESRPG.
