What sort of laptop should I get?

I don't know much about tech

I don't play games

I'm looking for something that's fast + powerful, high quality, future-proofed (within reason of course) and that's easy to use and software that isn't annoying all the time and gives me freedom.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Money's not an object

Thanks x

Hello /g/ I am a literal retard and would like advice in what torrenting client to use. I'm trying to just download everything I can because I have no hobby so I decided that jew-hoarding media would be my hobby. What is the best client, VPN and sources for torrenting media so that I can then add to my collection?

 No.10645

>client

qBittorrent

>VPN

The cheapest one from torrentfreaks list. Likely PIA. It really doesn't matter as long as your ISP is off your back. Be aware of data caps many ISPs impose.

>sources

https://archive.org/ obviously. Everything can be fetched via torrent.

Hey /g/. Got myself a nice thinkpad and I'm sort of regretting using w10. even with what I have it still seems not all that great. i run a VPN, turned off "most" telemetry data through the use of programs, use libre office, etc. yet I feel like I need to use linux, especially since I'll be going into cs.

>use arch

thinkpad arch user friend who tells me to use arch, literally can't even be bothered with this. too much command line stuff and I don't want to deal with too much of that unless I really need it.

>hey anon, I boot (((insert here))) linux distro on a usb

never seen them use debian at all, mostly random shit like ubuntu and gentoo.

i like debian, and used debian based distros. is there something that is recommended by /g/ that's specifically for cs and has privacy in mind?

They're using zsh shell with a script (I assume) that changes the prompt based on what they're doing in git. Possibly using font awesome for the github fork glyphs. It is likely a program to install related to github.

What it essentially is doing is modifying the value of the prompt variable $PS1

The colors are created by using ANSI escape codes.

The icons are created by using Unicode glyphs

#the echo line below would print a white up/down arrow on a green background in a terminal capable of handling colors.
#\\u2B0D unicode for the up/down arrow glyph
#\033...etc the ANSI code to change foreground & background colors
echo -e "\033[42m\033[37m\\u2B0D "

>do you think your preferences in software affects your preferences for politics?

No. I'm very pragmatic when it comes to software so anything that works and works like i want it will do. I favor free software for freedom of use and security, i also believe that putting in the work to understand something a little bit troublesome is rewarding and fun.

There's this one program that I know exists out there, but I don't remember what it's called. I remember it was similar to youtube-dl in that it was command prompt operated, except not only could you download videos but pretty much use the command prompt as if you were on youtube. In other words you could search and watch videos all through the command prompt.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

How do I post anonymously on 4chan?

I think this is a good exercise, if you can post anonymously and securely there you can be pretty sure to be safe and incognito everywhere else.

They basically use the same protocols as the Chinese government to detect proxy and VPNs.

I searched a bit about Chinese special techniques but everything is already blocked by 4chan.

I'll keep searching and post any news I get here.

The chinks must be pretty shit then. I've posted repeatedly on 4chan using public vpns. It's worth noting some of the boards are more restrictive about what countries they let post. I'm pretty sure /v/ has banned the entirety of Korea, though I have no idea why.

That's flawed reasoning. You don't have to know someone's "story" or need to be wronged in the past by someone in order to judge them as evil. Their intentions and ulterior motives are more than enough.

I haven't used Ubuntu for years, ever since they started selling their souls to Amazon and bundling literal actual botnet malware in their distro, but for some reason I decided to give it an honest go today. Forget the Amazon shit. Forget the systemd. SNAP is the worst thing in the fucking world. Snap is pure absolute cancer.

How in the hell do people use Ubuntu? WHY do people still use Ubuntu? Jesus christ what the fuck happened to Ubuntu.

using void now for over 2 years as my main OS, the biggest flaw is that you have to use other wikis to troubleshoot in most cases because the user base isn't that big. And the common problems that come with a rolling release distro. but xbps and runit are fucking solid.

if you mean Guix, yes its in a early stage but the concept seems to be awesome for second/backup machines
